Nuzlocke FireRed 2: The Final Chapter

So, we come to Victory Road, and the end of my adventure. I began training Sneezlax, Jebus and Vaporeon a few levels at the entrance of victory road, and catching Rocks, a Geodude. What followed was the disaster that ended the game for me, realistically. Level 46 Machoke scored a critical hit on Sneezlax and got the old 1-hit KO from full health. Even so, I persisted to the end of the cave, reached Victory Road and had a decision to make: Either level these two up, and some alternates, to try and take the end of the game on and achieve victory, or something else. Since grinding a Pikachu up over 30 levels to make the end game achievable didn't seem like my definition of fun, I decided I would start a new run, but, beforehand, I tried to see how far I could get with just Jebus and Slips in the Elite Four.

Not very far. Lorelei's Lapras proved to be my downfall, after Hypno Brick Breaked her Dewgong to death and then fell to Aurora Beam and then constant Confusion prevented Slips from going even further. Well, I guess at least they'll all get uploaded to their next life in Diamond, and eventually Black and White, and I'll start over with another run the next time I have a long bus ride...

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: The Last Gym Badges

I woke this morning in pretty bad back pain so it was an easy decision to make to play some more Pokemon and type this up on my laptop from there.

We last left of at Sabrina's Gym. Mostly, I led off with Sneezelax and switched into Zippy when I needed to against her gym trainers, all of whom I fought, and all of whom I thought were push-overs. The fight with Sabrina herself, though, was a little more interesting.

I led with Zippy who washed away her Kadabra, easily, with Flamethrower before it could even act. Next came Mr. Mime who Zippy torched with another Flamethrower but who didn't go down, erected a barrier and withstood a Metal Claw from the red because of Hyper Potion. I got tired of that, Blast Burned my way through to a 1 hit KO and swapped out for Sneezelax when she sent in her Venomoth. It led with a Psybeam which through Sneezelax into confusion for 4 turns, while it continued to Psybeam, and he hurt himself in his own confusion, trying to use Blizzard. Finally, the confusion let out and in the yellow I took down the pesky bug, but not before missing with Blizzard once before hand. Finally, she switched out to Alakazam and I threw Slips into the fight. I led with an Aurora Beam which got him down to the yellow while Alakazam used Calm Mind. I followed up with a Surf for the win.

One more badge to go so I headed right there. Zippy was getting a little behind in levels, and so was Jebus after Sabrina's Gym so I led with one or the other of those, against all the gym trainers. This was a bad idea. Jebus performed well but even with Blast Burn and Metal Claw, Cooltrainer Yuji and his Graveler was a challenge. I'm so used to playing the generation 1 version of this game that I was more worried about Self Destructs then what I should have looked out for: Rock Blast. Starting at full health, I had to watch Zippy get hit 1, then 2, then 3 times and go down, for my first casualty in a long time, and as my start Pokemon. I returned to the Pokemon Center after this to heal the others and considered stopping right there but I knew Giovanni himself would be easy.

So, I skipped a few trainers, went right to the big boss himself, and led with Slips. An uninteresting battle. Surf, Surf, Surf, Surf and Surf. Giovanni ninja vanish! You know the story. After this though, I really did stop, after depositing Zippy in the graveyard, with much disappointment. Next time, I'll have to decide if I want to train up something in the box, and how I want to tackle Gary Oak, and Victory Road. I would also like to note that, indeed, Zippy was a Charizard, and not a Charmeleon. My status entries have fallen victim to the old "Copy and Paste" and not proof well enough. I'll be fixing that shortly.

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: Silph Co.

So, time to tackle Team Rocket for the last time at Silph Co.. Since I've already accepted a Hitmonchan in Saffron, who has already unfortunately been slain, I won't be able to use the Lapras found on the way to my rival, so this all just the single minded pursuit of Giovanni...and a Master Ball. The way I decided to take this was to go right to the 5th floor and get the key card needed to open all the doors then go back down to the 2nd floor systematically take out each and every Rocket all the way to the top without using any of the warp panels, until the end, when I need to use them to get to Silph Co's president's office.

My Pokemon are seriously over-leveled for this place, because I decided to do Cinnabar and the Islands first. Almost everything I fight goes down in one hit, and I only start to run out of power points when I reach the 9th floor, where, fortunately, the rest spot is so I can complete the whole building without ever actually having to leave it. use any healing items, or anything like that. Once I get up to the top floor, though, I distribute some of the vitamins I've found to whomever I thought needed it, a PP UP I've had from before to Zippy's Blast Burn and a Rare Candy to Sneezelax, to save some of the experience for someone else. I take one more rest, then head for the President's Office, but first...

...Gary Oak. You know, he could take down Team Rocket, too, and he clearly doesn't care. He leads off with Pidgeot, I start with Slips. I'm 10 levels above his 37, and an Aurora Beam brings him down to the red, then a bite finishes him off while I take minimum damage. He switches to Exeggcute, I go with Zippy. 1 hit KO with Blast Burn. Next, comes out Blastoise. I choose Jebus! I lead with a successful hypnosis then pound him with a psychic for about half his HP. I try to do so again, but he wakes, and uses Protect. I follow up with another hypnosis but am unsuccessful, and then lay in with Psychics until he stops using Protect, I take a few bites but not enough damage to warrant a switch out until that damned turtle is slain. I miss having an electric Pokemon. Next out comes Growlithe and I just keep it up with the Psychic for another 1 Hit KO. Then I switch to Sneezelax to fight his Alakazam. He leads with Calm Mind, I strength him in 1 hit, thanks to a Critical.

Well, that's over. I grab the Lapras, name it Wasted since according to the rules I have to box it, forever, and move on to fight Giovanni and his last Rocket Grunt. This went something like this: Slips uses Surf...Slips uses Surf...Slips uses Surf...Slips uses Surf...Slips uses Surf...Slips uses Aurora Beam...you get the idea. His Kangaskan did manage to get off one rage though. Good for it. Now, I get my sweet, sweet reward of a Master Ball. Which I will use...for...something? I'm running out of areas to legally catch Pokemon in before the Elite Four challenge and I'm not convinced I'll complete the other Sevii Islands after that or not. Nevertheless, I return to the Pokemon Center, save, and prepare to get those last two badges, next time.

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: Return from Gilligan's Island

So, after more than a year, I opened up this save file again and had a look. Starting from Three Island I put about a half hour into it, first crossing Bond Bridge and heading into the Berry Forest. At Bond Bridge I encounter another Oddish right off and blast it away, I don't need another grass Pokemon to never use. In the Berry Forest the first thing I run into a Drowzee right off. Not interested, again, so I flamethrower it into oblivion and drudge my way to Lostelle who is trapped in the forest by a Hypno. It is another uninteresting fight, since my Pokemon are all in their forties and can take it down with ease. Lostelle and her Father reunited, my delivery is complete on Two Island so I had back to Bill, who finally gives me my ride home.

Now that I'm back to civilization I fly to Saffron City and make use of my box to store WildFire and Spirals someplace safe, just in case I screw something up and I need to train them. Only two more badges to go, so that means next stop: Silph Co.

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: Island Hopping

Its been some time. I didn't even lose. I've made the journey south to Cinnabar Island via Pallet Town without any special incident.

On arrival its time to get to the Pokemon Center then head over to the Lab to get an Omanyte named Spirals. I'm going to train him for awhile, see if he gets any better and head into the Pokemon Mansion to get the key so I can fight Blaine. The Pokemon Mansion turns out to be rough. I run into a Raticate first of all. At this point I'm not willing to even try and catch it and rip through it with Zippy's Flamethrower. The rest of the mansion takes some time and I come out twice. I'm not willing to risk dying to getting poisoned or bother with buying 100 antidotes either. Muk and Weezing, why could you not have been my first encounter?

I do eventually get to the Secret Key and with a quick heal make my way for Cinnabar Gym. Slips has got me covered as I go after all of the Gym trainers. Why waste experience points on Silly quizzes? Blaine? Also easy. Surf. Surf. Surf. Surf. Done. Being an appropriate level really makes these things slightly less dramatic, doesn't it?

And I leave and...oh, hey Bill. You want to go to some Islands? I like experience points. That sounds nice. Lets go right away. I agree to look around while he and Celio tinker about and deliver his package. First thing I do is head up kindle road and catch WildFire the Ponyta then head back to Two Island to move things along a little. I have to go find the game corner guys little girl? Okay...on to three island after a visit to a cape to teach Zippy BLAST BURN. Yes. I'm that excited about high power fire moves.

So, time to try out that move, and a little flamethrower because there is a boisterous Biker Gang here I need to take care of. Pew Pew. All of these battles go quickly as well thanks to my happy new move and flamethrower. That's where I stopped...

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: Badges and Things

I began the next part of my adventure by flying to Lavender Town and moving south along Route 12. The trainers here are no problem though I cannot Surf yet to pick up all the items so I'll have to stop back for another visit. My real reason to be here, besides the easy experience, is my second chance at a Snorlax. I've gained a few levels so I don't think I'll have to worry about the risks. So let the battle begin...

Snorlax begins the battle with a Yawn but the joke is on him-- Jebus the Hypno's ability is Insomnia and the move is ineffective. I lead off with a meditate to get the damage on my Headbutt to be a little more appreciable. Next, Hypnosis works and he eats his berry and awakens which causes his Snore to fail. Jebus keeps on hypnotizing and an Ultra Ball catches him the next round on the first try after no action from Snorlax. I name him Sneezlax. I heal up in Vermillion City and continue to make my way down to Fushia City along Routes 13, 14 and 15.

The journey was not very exciting. The Super Rod should come in handy as I come to the end of the game and go seeking for a final few Pokemon to train. I encounter another Oddish along the way and slay him with Zippy's Flamethrower. I also encounter a Ditto that I do catch and name Dumby though I'll likely never get to use him. He goes right to my Box anyway.

Once in Fushia City I heal up and fly to Celadon City to take on Erika. She's a pushover, and so are all of her underlings with Zippy and his Flamethrower in hand. I wish there was more to say about it but its just a game of repeat first hit Flamethrowers. Rainbow Badge is mine. With that I feel confident enough to seek out Koga.

Koga's gym is a little more challenging and his underlings require some switching between Sneezlax, Zippy and Jebus. I get out of the gym and heal twice and the battle with Koga is on. Sneelax takes a smokescreen to the face then leads off his turn with Body Slam and paralyzes Koffing, leaving him on the brink. Koffing's next attacks fails due to the paralysis and Snorlax Headbutt's the way to victory. To fight Muk and the other Koffing I send out Zippy to blast away with Flamethrower. I finish off the Weezing with a switch out to Jebus and uses his Confusion.

Well, now that I have Surf it is time to go on a Pokemon hunt. First stop is the Power Plant. I get a Pikachu there. On Route 21 I pick up a Tentacool. On Route 20 below Pallet Town I grab a Tangela. Next stop Seafoam Island. I head there and unfortunately...Zubat. I head for Cinnabar Island...and we'll stop there for now.

Nuzlocke FireRed 2: Pokemon Safari!

No luck with that Snorlax. I got him into the red several times but didn't want to risk losing Jebus or anyone else when there is a perfectly good Snorlax elsewhere to make an attempt for when I am a bit higher level. I did get several consolation prizes on the way to and through Fushia City though. After training up Zippy and letting him evolve after fighting the Biker's on the Cycling Road (Route 17) I picked up a Spearow named Peggy on Route 17, A Doduo on route 18 that I also name Peggy (I suspect my brain was not fully functional at that point in the evening) an Oddish named Qua on the other side of Fushsia on Route 15, a Magikarp named Yggdizzel in the city itself via the Good Rod in the pond north of the fisherman's house,a Nidoran male named Quills in the Safari Zone and Horsea I called Helen on Route 19 via fishing. I haven't fully explored all those areas, or fought most of the trainers but I will once I clear the rest of the items out of the Safari Zone, give the warden back his teeth and give Koga a run for his money...I also need to head back to Celadon and fight Erika and get my grind on so I don't fall to Koga's self destructs and smoke screens...We'll resume there next time. Short entry but I wanted to keep up to date...
